How to Share Apple ID with Your Family?
The arrival of iOS 5 made Apple products closer to "post-PC era". iCloud is no longer the "hub" to synchronize all the devices, in fact, iCloud has become the center. You need to login Apple ID when using iCloud, and as more people upgrade to iOS 5, users who had previously been sharing an Apple ID with family and friends will notice some problems.
Before iOS 5, sharing an Apple ID in iTunes is no more than shopping at the Apple online store to buy devices and software, seek help in customer service , which will not cause confusion. Now it's different, Apple ID bind a number of new services, many of which related to private information, some of which are inconvenient to share with family members. Moreover, iCloud will synchronize the data in many aspects, such as calendar events, if the people add or delete, modify events at the same time, things will be in a mass.
Fortunately, there are several ways to solve this problem, and this will not affect functions of iOS 5 and iCloud. We will introduce you several ways to share Apple ID with your family members appropriately, so that you can use different Apple ID on one computer.
1. Using One Apple ID as Private iCloud Account
This is the most important piece of advice, iCloud contains a series of new services, such as mail, calendar, contacts, reminders, bookmarks, photos, workflow, document and application data etc.
Shortcoming: Photo stream must bind with iCloud account, so you can not use Apple ID photo streams to share photos with others. Occasionally cause some trouble.
2. Share iTunes and App Store with One Apple ID
Many people, including me are using the same Apple ID to buy applications, so that there is no need to purchase again and again. In iOS 5 you can continue to use, and this may be only suitable for the whole family to share Apple ID.
Just log in with the shared Apple ID in the settings, of course, you need to use the Apple ID you used to buy applications, or all the contents before will lost. How to check if it is setup properly? Directly go to the Settings to see whether the Apple ID is the shared one. You can also turn on the automatic download feature, so you do not have to manually sync applications.
Shortcoming: Sometimes, son likes to try a variety of iPad apps for Christmas, but father never play the game, then Dad would turned off the automatic download option. Otherwise, the screen will be filled soon full of unwanted applications.
iBook Store will sync bookmarks, if two people are reading the same book on different devices, the conflicts would be annoyed. Of course, you can turn it off in iBooks.
3. Using Other Services in Apple ID
For me, the result I want to achieve is only to keep my personal data in iCloud, while share the purchased applications with family. For other services, whether change or not depend on individual needs and different occasions.
FaceTime: If you want to make video calls with your family, you'd better use another account. If you share a FaceTime's Apple ID, you can not talk to other share members, so it is proposed now to set a different account, in order to avoid special cases.
iMessage: Definitely one Apple ID for each will be better otherwise it members that share the same Apple ID can not communicate with each other. Of course, there are ways to make iMessage prepared to receive messages in multiple ways, but to be honest a different Apple ID will be convenient for you.
Family Share: It depends entirely on your circumstances, for example, whether or how you use this function. It is quite easy to modify the settings to share with the family.
Game Center: We suggest to use a different account, and isn't it nice to compare within the family who it better in playing "Angry Birds"? You can go to Game Center to modify the related Apple ID.
